Trail Access

The 1,200 acre Swaner Preserve protects critical wetland habitat as well as incredibly biodiverse sagebrush shrubland uplands. Bisected by I-80, the 850-acre wetland parcel and 350-acre upland parcels can be accessed from different areas.

Northern Section

The Swaner Preserve encompasses 350 acres north of I-80. This sagebrush shrubland hillside is the most biodiverse ecosystem on the Preserve, and over 10 miles of trails overlook East Canyon Creek while connecting into Park City’s world-class trail system. The Spring Creek Trailhead includes parking, a gazebo, and signage to find your way. Along the single track trail, don't be surprised to see hikers and bikers alike! Don’t forget to keep pets on leash and pick up after them while you’re out.

An interactive trail map from Basin Recreation can be found here.

Southern Section

southern trail section

The majority of this 850-acre parcel of the Preserve south of I-80 protects sensitive wetland habitat and is not open for unguided public access.

Paved and gravel paths border the Preserve perimeter in many locations: parallel to I-80, passing directly in front of the EcoCenter, running south along the highway 224 boardwalk, and connecting with the McLeod Creek trail, which can take you all the way into Park City on foot, bike, or skis. Thanks to Basin Recreation, these trails are maintained year-round and include grooming for Nordic skiing in the winter.
