    Nature Walk

Get outside with your family or close friends to explore all that the Swaner Preserve has to offer. Learn about wetland science, check out local plant and animal species, and dig into the history of the Preserve with a Swaner Naturalist. These tours are great for all ages and can be tailored to the needs of your group. Tours occur on the Southside of the Preserve, which is closed to un-guided public access and usually take between 1 and 2 hours.

Guided tours of the Preserve are available to you and your small crew (up to 9 people total) while practicing safe social distancing outdoors. Guests will meet their guide outside at the starting point for their chosen excursion. Pre-registration is required. Face coverings are required for staff and participants. Read below for tour options, pricing, and registration details.

    Wetland Discovery Trail Excursion

Explore the wonders of the Swaner Wetlands while taking a stroll on the Wetland Discovery Trail. Learn about the history of humans and the wetlands, listen for birds and animals hiding in the willows along the stream, and check out some prehistoric plants with a Swaner Naturalist. The Wetland Discovery Trail is an established path that follows a historic spur line of the Utah Railroad. You can choose to stay on the trail for the duration of your tour or have the naturalist take you on some off-trail adventures along the way.

This tour travels along an established path. If your group is concerned about plant-covered uneven
terrain or wet ground, this is the perfect option for you (although let’s be honest, we think it’s a great
    option for anyone interested!).

    Wetland Pond Excursion

Venture out to the spring-fed ponds of the Swaner wetlands. Look for tiger salamanders, observe the birds, and discover incredible plants with a Swaner Naturalist. These ponds, only accessible with a guide, provide a beautiful place to immerse yourself in nature.

Tall grass, plant-covered uneven terrain, and wet ground will be encountered during this tour.
It can be challenging for younger children and some seniors.

    Kimball Creek Excursion

Take a hike along Kimball Creek, one of the many streams on the Preserve. Explore this stream’s place in our watershed, check out some fascinating restoration projects and the wildlife they attract, and investigate the creatures that call the stream home. Wandering along the banks of Kimball Creek is a fun way to dip your toes into rejuvenating nature.

    Preserve Boundary Excursion

Stroll or roll on the paved path that surrounds the south side of the Preserve with a Swaner naturalist. Use binoculars to scope out birds and wildlife, check out the view from the Swaner Kiosk, and learn about the many species and humans who have called the Preserve home. This fully accessible excursion is a fun way to fulfill your nature fix and take in the beauty of the Swaner Preserve.
